ABOUT TOCOTRIENOL
Tocotrienols and tocopherols are members of the Vitamin E family. Tocotrienol is the superior member of the Vitamin E family with the highest efficacy, and commonly known as the natural Vitamin E because of its wide range of functions in the body.
Natural tocotrienols exist in four different isomers; alpha-, beta-, gamma- and delta- tocotrienols.
The difference between tocotrienols and tocopherols lie in the unsaturated side chain with the former possessing three double bonds and the latter with none. The presence of the complete isomerchain makes Tocotrienol the preferred anti-aging agent and powerful antioxidant due to the ease of donating a hydrogen atom from the hydroxyl group on the chromanol ring that reduces free radicals in the human body.
SOURCE OF TOCOTRIENOL
Tocotrienol is only available in limited sources of vegetable oil. Crude palm oil extracted from the fruits of oil palm is particularly desirable as it (Elaeis guineensis) contains a high amount of tocotrienols (up to 800mg/kg), mainly consisting of gamma-tocotrienol and alpha-tocotrienol. It also contains the most potent form of all commercially available tocotrienols: delta-tocotrienol. Tocotrienols are also found in oils derived from rice bran, barley, wheat germ and rye.
